terms.

the rules of the room.

LAST UPDATED · APRIL 2026

By using shimmer, you agree to these terms. If you don't, don't use it. We've tried to keep them short and readable, but they are a contract — read them.

01 · You must be 18+

shimmer is an adults-only service. If you're under 18, you can't use it. If we find out you're under 18, we'll delete your account. If you suspect someone on shimmer is a minor, report them in the app or email abuse@shimmer.bar.

02 · Your account

One account per person. You're responsible for everything that happens under your account. Don't share it. Don't let someone else use it. Don't impersonate anyone — real, fictional, famous, or otherwise.

You agree that the name, age, and photo you provide are actually yours and accurate. Fake identities break the whole product and the trust of people you're meeting.

03 · How shimmer works

shimmer shows you other people at the exact venue you've checked into. You tap someone to signal interest. They see your profile in their inbox. If they signal back, you match and can message each other.

When you're checked in, you are discoverable to other people at the same venue — that's the whole product. You can hide yourself at any time (Settings → Visible to others → off).

04 · What you can and can't do

You agree not to:

Break any of this and we remove you. No warning required. We cooperate with law enforcement when conduct crosses into criminal territory.

05 · Your content

You keep ownership of anything you post — your profile, photos, vibe, messages. By posting, you give shimmer a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, display, distribute, and transmit that content solely to run the product. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for content already delivered to others (messages they've received).

06 · Safety — you still have to use your head

shimmer connects people who are already in the same physical space. That's the whole magic and the whole risk. We do not verify identities. We do not screen users. We do not guarantee anyone is who they say they are.

Trust your instincts. Meet in public. Tell a friend where you are. Do not send money, share financial information, or leave with someone you've just met if anything feels off. Block and report anyone who makes you uncomfortable — it takes one tap inside the app.

07 · Location

shimmer requires access to your precise location to identify the venue you're at. Without it, the product doesn't work. By using shimmer you consent to that collection. Details on exactly what we store and for how long are in the Privacy Policy.

08 · We can suspend or remove you

We can suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice, if we believe you've broken these terms, if we're legally required to, or if we need to protect other users. You can also delete your own account at any time (Settings → Delete account).

09 · The service is provided as-is

shimmer is provided "as is" and "as available." We don't guarantee it'll be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it'll produce any particular result (like meeting someone you like). We can change, pause, or discontinue features without notice.

Venue data comes from third-party sources (Google Places) and may be incomplete or wrong. Use common sense about what bar you're actually standing in.

10 · Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, shimmer and its employees, officers, and affiliates are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of your use of — or inability to use — the service. Our total liability for any claim arising out of these terms is capped at the greater of $100 or what you've paid shimmer in the past 12 months (likely $0, since shimmer is free).

Some jurisdictions don't allow certain liability limitations — in which case the above applies to the maximum extent permitted.

11 · Indemnification

If you violate these terms or infringe someone's rights while using shimmer, and we get sued or suffer damages as a result, you agree to cover our reasonable legal costs and losses.

12 · Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any dispute that can't be resolved informally will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in San Francisco County, California. You and shimmer each waive the right to a jury trial and the right to participate in a class action.

If you're an EU consumer, this doesn't take away any rights you have under your local consumer protection laws.

13 · Changes

We may update these terms. If the changes are material, we'll give you notice in the app before they take effect. Your continued use after that notice means you accept the new terms. If you don't, delete your account.

14 · Contact

Questions or legal notices: hello@shimmer.bar. For reporting other users, use the in-app report button (Settings → Profile → Report) or email abuse@shimmer.bar.
